In their final match before Ruben Amorim officially takes over as manager, Manchester United recorded a 3-0 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The win capped a successful four-game unbeaten run for interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took over in late October. Van Nistelrooy’s 75% win rate during his brief spell is the best in United’s history.
Bruno Fernandes was the star of the show, scoring the opening goal and contributing to the second. The United captain has now scored more goals for the club than club legend Eric Cantona.
Fernandes’ resurgence under Van Nistelrooy will be of particular interest to incoming manager Amorim, who is set to officially begin his tenure on Monday. Fernandes failed to score in his final 17 appearances under previous manager Erik ten Hag, but has netted 4 times in 4 games since Van Nistelrooy took charge.
The new manager will also be encouraged by the performances of midfielders Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte, who have formed a solid partnership under the interim boss. Wing-backs Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui also impressed, though the former struggled at times against Leicester’s Abdul Fatawu.
With the international break now upon us, Amorim will have time to assess his new squad before United’s next Premier League match against Ipswich Town on November 24.
