Ranked, blue-blood men’s college basketball programs tangle often during non-conference play.

Iconic venues in the Northeast or Midwest typically host these games, though. Around the holidays, it might be a tropical locale where mai tais are many.

Friday’s clash between No. 12 Duke and No. 17 Arizona is unique because it will be held on campus, at the Wildcats’ McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz.

“We’re still committed to really high-quality home and homes, and that won’t ever change,” Arizona president of basketball operations Matt King said. “We don’t want our season ticket holders to ever believe… that we’re not going to try to make sure there are some big-time games.”

If you were around the last time Arizona hosted Duke, in February 1991, you’re old enough to place a bet (and drink a mai tai) tonight. Let’s look at the Blue Devils-Wildcats as well as action in the NHL and college football.

WINNIPEG JETS AT PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

After losing consecutive games for the first time this season, NHL points leader Winnipeg salvaged a home-and-home with the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, cruising to a 6-3 win north of the border.

That game was a respite in a stretch in which the Jets play nine of 10 on the road, where they are 7-2-0 to start the season.

Behind co-points leaders Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor (24 apiece), the Jets’ attack is dynamic, home or away. Winnipeg leads the league with 80 goals and takes on a Penguins club that has yielded an NHL-worst 81 goals while struggling to maintain leads.

Winnipeg won the first meeting between the clubs 6-3 in late October. The Jets are likely to start backup goalie Eric Comrie as two division games loom after this one, so expect something similar this time around. A goal from the Pens’ Sidney Crosby would add intrigue as the 600th of his superstar career.

Both teams to score 3+ goals, +175 (BetMGM)

No. 24 UNLV AT SAN JOSE STATE

If you were around the last time the Rebels won 10 games, you’re old enough to be at least 40. UNLV hasn’t accomplished the feat since 1984, but at 8-4 entering this Mountain West matchup, the program is closing in.

Still alive for a crack at a rematch with No. 12 Boise State in the conference championship game, the Rebels must keep winning and get outside help in the form of a Colorado State loss in either of the next two weeks.

Taking care of business against the Spartans won’t be easy. San Jose State quarterback Walker Eget has passed for 841 yards in the past two games, including 446 in last week’s 42-21 loss to Boise State, connecting often with the nation’s leading receiver, Nick Nash.

The rapport between Rebels quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams and wideout Ricky White III is solid, too. Williams is a dual-threat as well, rushing for eight touchdowns to go with his 14 passing TDs. Let there be yards and scoring in this one.

Over 60.5 points, -110, (BetMGM)

No. 12 DUKE AT NO. 17 ARIZONA

It’s something to think the NCAA universally adopted the three-point line less than five years before the most recent Duke-Arizona game in Tucson. It was April 1986, to be exact.

The shot these days is a staple for many offenses and frequently influences outcomes if teams aren’t careful—or versatile.

Duke went just 4-for-24 from deep in a Nov. 12, neutral-court loss to then-No. 19 Kentucky but lost only by five. So, while the Blue Devils may live by the three, they don’t have to perish by it.

Their spirits and percentage surged in a Nov. 16 rout of visiting Wofford. Sparked by separate 4-for-7 efforts from Tyrese Proctor and Isaiah Evans, Duke was 16 for-38 from long range and won 86-35.

Arizona struggles to defend the 3, which figures to be its undoing Friday. The Wildcats have been idle since Nov. 15 at Wisconsin (jump around for another on-campus showdown!), when they allowed the Badgers to connect on 12-of-27 treys while hitting a mere 4-of-23. Wisconsin won 103-88.

Duke -1.5 spread, +105 (BetMGM)
