NFL roundup: Lions end Thanksgiving skid, improve to 11-1

Syndication: Detroit Free PressDetroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff (16), defensive tackle DJ Reader (98), wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (14), running back Jahmyr Gibbs (26), linebacker Al-Quadin Muhammad (69) celebrate their win against the Chicago Bears with a turkey drumstick after winning 23-20 on Thanksgiving Day at Ford Field in Detroit on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024.

Jared Goff connected with Sam LaPorta for two touchdowns and the Detroit Lions extended their winning streak to a franchise-record-tying 10 games by holding off the visiting Chicago Bears 23-20 on Thursday.

The Lions snapped a seven-game losing streak in their annual Thanksgiving Day game. Goff passed for 221 yards, while David Montgomery had 124 yards from scrimmage. Jahmyr Gibbs added a combined 104 yards for Detroit (11-1), which owns the best record in the NFC.

Caleb Williams threw for 256 yards and three second-half touchdowns for the Bears (4-8), who have lost six straight. DJ Moore caught eight passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Chicago’s poor clock management on its last possession allowed Detroit to hold on. After a sack left the ball on the Chicago 41-yard line with 32 seconds left, the Bears failed to call a timeout on third down and the clock ran out on Williams’ deep incompletion.

Cowboys 27, Giants 20

Rico Dowdle ran for 112 yards and a touchdown while the Dallas defense came up with six sacks and a pick-6 in a win over visiting New York in Arlington, Texas.

Cooper Rush completed 21 of 36 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown as the Cowboys (5-7) became the last franchise in the four major sports to win a home game in this calendar year. It was the team’s second win in five days, keeping alive its long-shot hopes for an NFC playoff berth.

Drew Lock hit 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards and an interception for the Giants, who dropped to 2-10 with their seventh straight loss. Lock pulled the Giants within a touchdown on an 8-yard run with 2:18 left in the game.

Packers 30, Dolphins 17

Jordan Love threw for 274 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Jayden Reed, and Quay Walker made a key goal-line stop in the fourth quarter to help host Green Bay defeat Miami.

Tua Tagovailoa (365 yards, two TDs) threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to De’Von Achane and completed a two-point conversion to draw the Dolphins within 27-11 late in the third quarter. Miami trailed by the same score when it reached the Green Bay 1-yard line early in the fourth, but Walker sacked Tagovailoa on fourth down. Brandon McManus made his third field goal of the night to seal the win.

The Packers (9-3) won for the third time in 12 days to remain two games behind the NFC North-leading Lions and pull even with the Minnesota Vikings in the win column. The Dolphins (5-7) saw a three-game winning streak snapped.
