Arne Slot has made a remarkable start as Liverpool manager, surpassing several legendary Premier League coaches in the process.
Since taking over from Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, Slot has won 15 of his first 17 games in all competitions – the most of any manager in the Premier League era.
This impressive record sees Slot eclipse the likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho, who both won 14 of their first 17 games as Chelsea managers. Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri also feature on the list, each winning 13 of their opening 17 matches.
Other managers to have achieved 12 wins from their first 17 games include Luiz Felipe Scolari, Guus Hiddink, Avram Grant, and current England boss Thomas Tuchel – all former Chelsea managers.
The data shows Slot’s fast start is unprecedented, with even Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola only winning 11 of his first 17 games in charge. Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger and Manchester United great Sir Alex Ferguson also won just 7 of their first 17 matches when they took over their respective clubs.
Liverpool’s strong start under Slot has seen them open up a 5-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. The Reds have also maintained a 100% record in the Champions League so far this season.
While it is still early days, Slot’s historic beginning could pave the way for Liverpool to match Manchester United’s record of 20 English top-flight titles this campaign.
